“Clerith” seems to be not only officially recognized as a ship, but evidently the Japanese version of the term describing Cloud and Aeris’s romantic relationship is so significant that searching it on Apple’s iOS will bring you to Final Fantasy VII.
The Japanese ship name is クラエア (kuraea, a portmanteu of Kuraudo and Earisu, the Japanese pronunciations of Cloud and Aerith). No other ship name in Japanese or English seems to be a keyword as well, including Cloti.
It’s not clear exactly why this was the case. Presumably, the development team had a preference in the love triangle? Or perhaps Cloud and Aeris’s roles as the game’s leads made the inclusion of this term a logical decision. Either way, seeing Clerith recognized officially in this way is pretty neat!
