Cloud’s mocap actor recently streamed his playthrough of Final Fantasy VII Remake on YouTube. Live viewers could share comments to which he would respond as well, leading to some fun personal insights and discussions.
It seems some Cloud x Tifa shippers have recently claimed that he “confirmed” Cloti as a canon ship. To be clear, this is not the case. For one, he can’t confirm any ship, he’s just a motion capture actor – which means he acts out the skeleton of Cloud for various movements, especially in cutscenes, but does not read lines, discuss the intricacies of the characters, or have intimate knowledge of the story.
But second, this claim that “Cloud’s mocap actor says Cloti is canon” generally shows a misunderstanding of Japanese language and no small amount of picking and choosing offhand lines while ignoring others.
To put this to rest: Cloud’s mocap actor played the Chapter 14 Resolution scene with Aerith, smiling at how Aerith points out Cloud is “also” worried about her, and calling Cloud a good boy for vowing to rescue her. Afterwards, he clearly says that in this route, Aerith is who Cloud loves.
The Resolution scene with Aerith is at about the 2-hour mark.
”[reading a comment] “もう好きになってるから好きにならないでと言われても無意味でー” そうだ。”その時だ。そう。こっちのルートはさ 、ね。だから本心うれちゃって..”
[translation:] “It’s meaningless for [Aerith] to tell Cloud not to fall in love because he’s already in love with her.” That’s right! In that occasion, yeah. For this route, totally. And so true feelings are made clear.”
Hopefully this puts to rest the erroneous claim that the mocap actor has “canonized” Cloti!
