FF7 Ever Crisis Celebrates Rebirth’s One-Year Anniversary with Clerith

In celebration of the one-year anniversary of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the series’ official mobile phone game Ever Crisis held a limited-time event centered around Cloud and Aerith’s Gold Saucer date. Held January 29 – February 26, 2025, this was an awesome time to snag some new costumes, earn blue crystals – and enjoy some canon Clerith content.

Titled “FFVII Rebirth: LOVELESS Behind the Scenes,” the event opens with Aerith knocking on Cloud’s door and inviting him to see Loveless with her. The video footage comes straight from Rebirth, and it isn’t abbreviated at all – it includes Aerith mentioning the Skywheel couples’ night special, and teasing Cloud for getting flustered as well.

The event then gives us brand new scenes of Aerith, Barret, and Red XIII preparing backstage for their starring roles in Loveless with some help from Yuffie. Barret and Red XIII wear their Dragon King and Garm costumes, whereas Aerith wears her Songstress Rosa outfit. It’s a cute addition, showing Barret and Red XIII battle their nerves and get in-character with the support of Aerith and Yuffie, in contrast to the play simply beginning the moment everyone puts on their virtual reality headsets.

At the end of a series of battles, Cloud comes in to check on the group. As they leave to take their places on stage, Aerith says she wrote a song about their journey together. Of course, this references her song No Promises to Keep. The music that plays in the background is the same music that plays during her gondola date with Cloud, suggesting a special connection between her words and her feelings for him.

The Loveless play finally occurs in full as the event’s finale scene. Naturally, Aerith is in the leading role of Princess Rosa opposite of Cloud as Alphreid. The play has no player-driven options, so we get to see a clean version of the performance without the button-mashing UI. Cloud’s performance choices are also pre-determined – and of course he canonically asks about his romantic future with Rosa, and later attempts to kiss her.

What’s really lovely about the event though is that it didn’t conclude with the play’s curtains closing. The final scene showed Cloud and Aerith walking toward the Skywheel for their date.

There really is very little question that Aerith is the “true” Rosa in the Loveless play and Cloud’s default date. This was the case in the original Final Fantasy VII as well. But the Clerith fans certainly enjoyed this start to the new year and the extra validation from Ever Crisis!
