In the original Final Fantasy VII, Aeris chose to wear a red dress for the mission to infiltrate Don Corneo’s mansion with Cloud. In Remake, this red dress was the best outcome of three possible dresses, and a reward for completing all of Aerith’s side quests in the prior chapter of the game. Unlocking the red dress meant Cloud had garnered the maximum affection points for Aerith, and in the process, several optional – and romantic! – scenes between the pair took place.
Now this outfit, appropriately titled “Gorgeous Dress,” has finally arrived in Ever Crisis, Square Enix’s mobile phone game. Aerith’s red dress is the first of three character costumes to be released as part of the Corneo Cup: Open Bridal Audition limited event, which launched April 29, 2026.

Furthermore, her corresponding weapon’s ability has a little bonus Clerith reference. The Gorgeous Staff uses the ability Luminous Bloom. The animation? Aerith generates orbs of light in her hand and chucks them at the enemy, where they explode into colorful fireworks.

The familiar motif, of course, calls back to Aerith’s red carpet entrance, where Cloud’s jaw dropped as Aerith was silhouetted in fireworks.

Perhaps one of the most romantic moments in Remake, it’s one of the few times in the series where Cloud seems overcome with attraction. The atmosphere, the entrance, the fireworks – it’s a smorgasbord of romance-genre tropes. Not to mention, Aerith “walking down the aisle” as a smitten Cloud stands in waiting almost feels like a wedding procession.
There really is no doubt that Aerith’s red dress is her “canon” dress – it calls back to the original game, after all – but it’s a nice reminder that Cloud and Aerith’s adorable moment of mutual attraction must have taken place.
For those who haven’t kept up with Ever Crisis, it’s a great time to note that this isn’t the only time the game has “canonized” an Aerith romance route. Last year, a Rebirth collaboration event went a step further and canonized their Gold Saucer date. (You can read more about that here!)

Ever Crisis will also feature Tifa’s purple dress, which also calls back to the original game. But unlike Aerith’s dress, Tifa’s purple dress is not dependent on affection points and does not affect any scenes. In fact, Tifa’s purple dress is treated as the default – Cloud can only unlock Tifa’s other two dresses if he completes all her side quests, and thus wins a scene where Tifa asks him what kind of style suits her. Tifa will wear her purple dress if the player did not complete her quests, or specifically selected Elegant / Mature as a response to Tifa’s question.

Cloud himself also gets to participate in the event, and is finally featured in a dress of his own. Titled the “Classic Dress,” he wears his blue and black corset dress, and wields a “Noble Parasol.”

But there’s something kind of cute about this parasol: look at the handle, and you’ll see a pink ribbon! Did Aerith tie it there? We can only wonder!
